I lead a trip for SMAS to Calvert Cliffs State Park this morning. We started in the parking lot with a tree full of warblers and waxwings. The jewel weed growing next to the pond hosted 2 Ruby-throated Hummers. On the trail down to the water, we ran into two separate pockets of mixed warblers. The wind off of the Bay was ripping and there was no beach but we managed to find one Brown Pelican near the LNG dock. Though the Red-headed Woodpeckers weren't seen by all, cumulatively we had a sweep of all 7 expected woodpeckers. I was surprised that some of the warblers that I've been seeing fairly easily at SERC weren't present (or detected) today which would have boosted our total. Still, the weather held off for the duration and a good time was had by all!
