Carrol,

I just used Xeno-canto to find and listen to call notes made by a
Connecticut Warbler. For whatever reason, Stokes and Lang CD Guide to
Eastern Bird Song only has Conn Warbler song and not its chip notes.
Wanted to be ready in case I come across one in the field. I saved
("save as source" in Quicktime) the sound file to my computer to
transfer to my iPOD for personal use with my portable speaker. I think
you need the upgrade of Quicktime (Quicktime Pro) to do this however.

I also use it sometimes to help me ID some of the non-passerine night
migrants I record over my house in Gaithersburg. Some of the recordings
at Xeno Canto are not same quality (but there more like you might hear
in field) as found at Cornell's Library of Natural Sounds but Xeno Canto
has better "descriptors" of whether the recording is a song, call note,
or flight call, making it easier to find what your looking for (if they
have it).

Hope this helps,
