Hi All,

Nancy and I had some errands in town today and decided to check out the
aeration ponds visible from John Hanson Rd at the southwestern edge of
Chestertown. We encountered another birder who got us on a juvenile
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE swimming in the southeastern part of the pond. We
thanked him by getting lucky and finding an adult GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GOOSE on the near berm with some of the 950 Canada Geese present. The
bird was dark olive-brown, had a limited white frontal patch, and an
orange bill so it was probably a Greenland White-front. A single
RICHARDSON'S CACKLING GOOSE flew in with four Canadas as we were
watching the white-front. Also present was a single Snow Goose (unusual
at this location). Also in residence were 17 Caspian Terns, 6 shovelers,
and 34 Ruddy Ducks. Fifty plus Tree Swallows were hawking around
accompanied by at least 2 rough-winged swallows. Not a bad decision to
stop by the treatment plant.

Good birding,

Nancy Martin & Walter Ellison
