It appears to big a big day for Connecticut Warblers. As my son and I
were bushwacking along the Little Patuxent River where it flows
between Columbia Road and Old Annapolis Road I noticed a small bird
fly up from a thicket. It landed obligingly on a clear perch where I
could see the pale gray hood, white eye ring, pale yellow belly, and
olive/brown back. It wasn't going anywhere, so I handed my binoculars
to my son and he got a good look as well. So if you get a Connecticut
at 13, where do you go from there?

During our hike we spooked wood ducks from the stream multiple times,
and a great blue heron when we were only about 5 m away (that one
spooked us, too - we hadn't seen it). We also saw blue jays,
cardinals, chickadees, titmice, crows, a ruby-crowned kinglet, hairy
and downy woodpeckers, foxes, turtles, and deer. We heard a barred
owl, and possibly saw one.
