After hearing about the Nelson's Sparrow on Dent Road near Shady Side, I decided to give it a whirl at lunch. Couldn't do it yesterday as Jane and I were returning from North Dakota. Unfortunately, I realized about halfway there that I'd forgotten my calf boots (Wellies to some) which would have made a lot more of the area accessible. Regardless, the place is a gem.
I didn't find the target sparrow but the place was dripping in Yellow-rumped Warblers. There was a sharpie perched on the power line which made me think initially that it was a small falcon. I don't recall ever seeing a sharpie perched on a wire before. Also, I think my count of butterbutts is a gross underestimate. They were everywhere.
