This afternoon, Oct 20th, a quite late Ruby-throated Hummingbird
stopped in our yard for about six sips of nectar from the clump of bright
red Pineapple Sage that sits in full sun beside our deck. Binoculars were
handy, so it was easy to confirm no sign of this being anything other than a
young Ruby-throat. A similar bird had made a similar visit back on Oct 3.
In prior years, without the Pineapple Sage, the latest hummers seen on the
property had been present around Sept 20.

Other yard birds of the day included several Ruby-crowned Kinglets
and Golden-crowned Kinglets, Robins, a pair of White-breasted Nuthatches,
Chipping Sparrows, White-throats and several Yellow-rumped Warblers.
