A friend and I enjoyed Harry Armistead's walk Sunday, after which we ventured down Elliott Island Rd, a new landscape for Nancy. Nothing too remarkable, waterfowl were pretty much absent, and the shorebirds were only yellowlegs (Both species). We saw quite a few Savannah Sparrows, and a nice handful of Swamps, with a stray Song Sparrow or two. Before we got into the marsh, Brown-headed Nuthatches put on a nice show, much closer than at Blackwater. Myrtle Warblers were also abundant. The highlight was probably the first-year White-crowned Sparrow, a species I did NOT expect, which we encountered as you got more upland again, with trees nearby. At the public boat ramp, two Common Loons were out in the water. Perched on the pier were Forster's and Royal Terns. Some of the Royals were juveniles. Routine gulls were also present. The highlight was probably the first-year White-crowned Sparrow, a species I did NOT expect
