Morning all,
Just time for a quick walk around the yard with the dog this morning, but it seems our overgrown vegetable garden is finally starting to produce. While we got very little in the way of veggies this summer, apparently the birds are finding the wildness of the weeds to their liking, as with yesterdays Palm Warbler (present again this morning, very pretty). Today as I approached the garden, up popped a sparrow which perched briefly on the fence for fleeting looks before it flew for the cover of the hedgerow in back. A bit of spishing along the fenceline, and out came my first yard SWAMP SPARROW, in the company of a Song Sparrow. Yard Bird #126!

Also seen were a group of 3 Tree Swallows flying fairly low over the yard and heading south, which I only mention because I mostly see them in mid-late afternoon this time of year, and hardly ever so low except in spring. Others include Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Palm Warbler, bluebirds, Downy Woodpecker, etc. But very few House Sparrows (another story for later).
