14 Nov 2009:     Calvert County: Port Republic

An immature male Archilochus hummingbird (Ruby-throated or Black-chinned) made a brief stop at my feeder in Scientists' Cliffs this afternoon.  It left in a southerly direction and did not reappear over the next couple of hours.

In the late afternoon, 30 minutes (1615 to 1645 EDT) spent scanning the very flat (if a bit higher than usual) waters of the Bay from the cliff top at the N end of Scientists' Cliffs turned up only 6 birds:
   Common Loon 1
   Brown Pelican  2  (a pair heading up the Bay well off shore)
   Herring Gull 3
