Thanks to Dan Haas's posting about the NORTHERN SHRIKE last week, I made my way to Chino Farms in QA county yesterday morning. And there was the shrike sitting pretty on a post out in the open. I watched it for a few minutes before it flew off.
There were lots of Canada Geese at the Chestertown WWTP but try as I might, I just could not turn one into that Greater White-fronted Goose. The wind was brutal but I hung in there to no avail. Lots of Ruddies, some Shovelers and a few Ring-necked Ducks were also there.
At Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge, the wind continued to roar and the birding was not as exciting as Bill Hubick's finds earlier. I was surprised to find a Catbird. The refuge is wonderful to visit no matter what the weather. It was 4:30 p.m. when I left so I skipped the WWTP on my way out.
