Had a lot of pent up birding desire after having both the Christmas
counts I was going to participate in this weekend called off. So I
decided to brave the roads and see what birding spots might be
accessible. I was glad I had a 4WD, but I did manage to do my usual
circuit of Little Seneca Lake (Black Hill Regional Park) and found a
good variety of waterfowl, including two Long-tailed Ducks, a Redhead,
and six Canvasback. (Several of the usual parking areas were unplowed
when I was there, however). Full eBird list below.
Stopped briefly at Riley's lock and had a flyover Merlin, but the only
waterfowl I saw when I was there were a few Lesser Scaup and a
Pied-billed Grebe.
Lots of sparrows, juncos, and other birds by the sides of the roads, of
course.
