Meant to report this two weeks ago: our annual duck visitors have returned
to Cambridge. Not as many individuals as this time last year.

Despite the sub-freezing nights, the Choptank has not iced up yet; the water
appears more viscous at the entrance to Cambridge Creek, suggesting green
ice is ready to form.

Here's who's here:
Common goldeneye and bufflehead off Great Marsh Park at end of Somerset.
Canvasback, Am. Wigeon, and one redhead off end of Belvedere.
Scaup off end of Choptank Avenue
Pair of Oldsquaw (I refuse to give in on this change!) off Long Point Park
at end of High St.
Mallards, like starlings, everywhere

Actually felt sorry for the ring-bills.

Met two gentlemen from the Baltimore area (with Virginia license plates) who
were photographing the ducks. I'm not great at remembering names- sorry,
gentlemen, if you are reading this. I believe one was Bill Melenson and the
other Paul.
