I wanted to post that I just heard a Red Crossbill at our house!  We have many feeding stations, and currently have about 10-12  House Finches and 10-15 Am Goldfinches around.  I was in the driveway with my kids checking out new bikes, and without looking at them I noticed a small group of birds that I assumed were house finches flyover at tree-top level toward the back of the house.  I got a big jolt when I heard the distinct call of a Red Crossbill!  I have no idea which type of Red Crossbill, but the call was loud and clear as it passed by only about 100 feet away.  I have been watching the feeders and tree tops now with my bins, but have not seen it yet.  Maybe I should hide the camera!
