Early this morning I decided to try again for the PURPLE SANDPIPER at
Herrington Harbor in Anne Arundel County. I got lucky this time: I found
one bird right away and got brief but excellent views of it, as it rested
and preened at the tip of the south jetty. A great county bird! There were
many more waterfowl present this morning, compared to the last time I was
down there on December 23: a large raft of Common Goldeneyes, many
Buffleheads and Long-tailed Ducks, and scattered small groups of Tundra
Swans.

Afterwards I went up to Shady Oaks Road, off of Muddy Creek Road, and found
a small flock of 6 HORNED LARKS, another bird that has long eluded me in the
county.

Good birding and Happy New Year to all!
