My favorite Maryland bird this year probably has to be the Northern Goshawk
I saw at the Turkey Point Hawk Watch; a life Purple Sandpiper that Sean
McCandless found for me at Ocean City is a close second.

My favorite yard bird is the Carolina Wren who not only found a hole in the
screened porch and got stuck in there this summer, but who has finally
figured out how to get out again. I watched the wren family (mom, dad, three
babies) foraging in the shrubs in front of our house this summer and
discovered nests on several garage shelves, inside a coiled up extension
cord, and in the barbecue grill.

My favorite birds of the year are the Bea Eater and Hoopoe, but I didn't see
them in Maryland!

Happy New Year!
