I had a few free hours before family obligations and covered the Tidal Basin and nearby areas for the DC count first thing this morning.  It was brutally cold and the strong winds suppressed nearly all passerine activity and probably forced some waterfowl to more sheltered locations.  The highlight was finding the Cackling Goose that has been around for some time now, in a large flock of Canadas just south of the Memorial
 Bridge.
My full list was:
Pied-billed Grebe 3Canada Goose 320Cackling Goose 1 Mallard
51Great Blue Heron 1Lesser Scaup 14American Kestrel 1 (flyover at dawn at Tidal Basin)Ring-billed Gull
 296Herring Gull 135Great Black-backed Gull 52Rock Dove 15Crow sp 1Northern Mockingbird 1European Starling 1American Robin 1Northern Cardinal 1White-throated Sparrow 2House Finch 1
