Gayle and I were surprised to find an Eastern Phoebe this morning during the Triadelphia CBC. We found it in a northern section of the WSSC controlled Triadelphia watershed when it came to eat some berries on a Bittersweet Vine. It had a pronounced yellow belly/breast that was a striking contrast to its dark head. It must have been camera shy because it left as soon as I tried for a photo. We typically don't go to this area during the CBC because hunters are usually shooting on the adjacent private property but all was quiet today so we decided to check it out. This habitat is in a depression and somewhat protected so perhaps that is why the phoebe was there.

The rest of our tally was unremarkable in terms of species (39) and numbers. We were able to find (hear) quite a few woodpeckers but had a difficult time finding juncos and other small birds. The geese numbers were also quite low from what are normally seen.
