As a complement to Kevin's earlier posting, I made a leisurely walk
behind the raucous gunfire perimeter. Hunters seemed everywhere,
virtually hanging from the trees. Still, I spotted 6 rather small does.
Species total was 32. The more notable sightings were 2 perched
Bald Eagles, one deemed a 1st year juvenal and the other adult; a King-
fisher; a "heard" Pileated Woodpecker; a possible Winter Wren that
was too quick for me & escaped into the 5th dimension; one lonely
Bluebird; and a nice group of sparrows, containing Field, WT, Song,
2 Towhees and 3 (three!) Fox. On the drive along the reservoir, I
stopped long enough to check out the waterfowl. Nothing to add to
Kevin's except 2 Mute Swans. The nearby Canadas and gulls were
very tolerant of sightseeing visitors, particularly if they had bread to
offer.
