Bill,
Washington reports of Northern Shrike are scarce. One near Conococheague Creek on Mar. 7, 1951; also reported on the 1954 annual list (a compilation of all birds seen in each county for the year, long since discontinued); and one photographed at Blairs Valley on Nov. 14, 1999 are the only ones I have in the database now.

Congrats, Brad, and thanks for the heads-up. That's exciting. Would you mind passing on any photos or video that you can share? Also, just to be thorough, and I hope you won't mind - were you able to actively rule out Loggerhead from your nice looks? With its depressing crash in the state, Loggerhead is the rarer bird lately, but as you know there is plenty of precedent for them in the county. I just figured I'd ask since LOSH is now reviewable and I remember my first Loggerhead Shrike in the county (chased, Shaffer Road) was in winter. Let me know, and thanks again! I hope you don't feel like I'm picking on you by asking about details. We should all feel free to inquire about this stuff, as it benefits us all. :)
As for records, I have cc'd Bob Ringler in hopes that he can check for us. Bob, could we talk you into sharing the Washington NSHR records?
Many thanks!
Bill

Hi Guys,
Happy New Year, lots of exciting birds for 2010. We managed to find a Northern Shrike yesterday morning along Rt.40 past the West End Shopping Center, driving west towards Clear Spring. The adult bird was first seen a top a small tree out in a cornfield just before an old Cub Cadet tractor shop that has several for rent signs in the windows. This location is just before the Del-Mar Inn, driving west on rt.40. The field is on the south side of the road. We were able to study the bird as it ate the remains of it's breakfast. We were able to obtain digi-pix as well as excellent video including the bird calling. A very exciting lifer for my Grandfather and a long-awaited county bird for myself. If anyone needs this bird for the county or 2010, it should stick around for a while. Also, there is some nice looking barbed wire around a chain-linked fence, along a driveway, just before the old tractor shop with for rent signs that it finished it's
meal. The bird is easily viewable from the wide shoulder on rt.40. Good luck to all !
Brad
