I spent the morning walking about 3 miles at Maxwell Hall Park, Charles
County. It was a nice day with clear skies and no wind.....and finally warming
up. The waterfowl were in the mouth of Swanson Creek, and area that is
apparently not hunted because of the proximity to Chalk Point Power Plant.

Notes: 26-44F. no wind. clear. Patuxent River mostly frozen. Open
water near Chalk Point.

A brief stop at the western side of the Rt.231 Bridge added 3 Hooded
Merganser, 1 Pied-billed, 1 Double-crested Cormorant and a kingfisher.
At home the Bay was FLAT! I could easily identify ducks that were almost 2
miles away. The tally:
Mallard 13, Canvasback 42, Greater Scaup 10, Lesser Scaup 5000, Surf Scoter
10, Black Scoter 6, Long-tailed Duck 174, Bufflehead 676, Common Goldeneye
12, Ruddy Duck 12 and 1 Common Loon.
