Bald Eagles in the snow

School was delayed this morning, so I was on the local roads about 10 AM. My daughter told me she thought there were two bald eagles in a field that we'd passed. I circled back and - sure enough - two bald eagles were sitting in the fresh snow. I pulled over to enjoy the view. One eagle stretched out it's wings and flew up, circling around then resting in a tree. The other stayed on the ground, working a carcass.

The sky was blue with puffy clouds, the sun was shining on the snow and the birds, and the view was wonderful in the crisp, clear morning.

I heard from my son that he saw one of these eagles on the field about 2 days ago, in the afternoon, when he was riding the bus home from school (about 2:30 PM). Given that there is a carcass that they are working, I suspect they will be there for awhile yet.

The field is located near Lothian Circle. If you are coming South on Rt. 2, there is a circle where Rt. 2 turns East, Bayard Road to the West and Rt. 408 to the south. The birds are in the field on Rt. 2, just north of the Lothian circle. They are on the North West side. Good opportunity for photos, too, I think.
