All -

I spent the morning wandering around Howard County. Highlights follow...

Rt 99/Underwood Rd area - 56 HORNED LARKS - didn't hear/see any pipits or longspurs - the biggest flock of larks (42) was feeding in the plowed driveway for Bowling Green Farm on Underwood.

Quarry near Brighton Dam - there are now 4 COMMON GOLDENEYE here - we have lost the first year male, but gained and adult male and 3 females. The quarry is starting to freeze, which may force things to the end we can actually see.

Brighton Dam - didn't get there until around 10. It is mostly frozen again. The most "exciting" thing there was some sort of Canada Goose hybrid. I've seen this variant before, but don't know what it is. I got some decent shots (recognizable anyway), which I'll disseminate when I get them downloaded/cropped.

COMMON MERGANSERS - 21 vs 1300 yesterday at 7:00 AM

BALD EAGLEs - 5

I was amusing myself by trying to identify the fish the ring-billed gulls were catching and the eagles were stealing. The only ones identified were 2 stiff-as-a-board yellow perch. This is in case anyone is doing county fish lists and wants to chase.

Good birding (and/or) fishing!
