Thanks to all of you who responded to my earlier posting. The consensus,
supported by my own inquiries to Verizon, is that at this time there simply
aren't any birding field guides available for Verizon-compatible
smartphones. The two-device strategy is the only way to go. So I've replaced
my broken Verizon Wireless cellphone with another basic model (isn't it
weird how we define "basic" functionality these days?), which doesn't
require an extra $10 or $30 a month data fee. And, to replace my ailing Palm
PDA, I've acquired an iPod Touch, thus entering the 21st century at last.

Now to decide between National Geographic Handheld Birds and iBird Pro --
your thoughts?
