Clearing a path to the suet feeder while trying to avoid standing under the
Icicle of Death, I looked up to discover a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER on a nearby
tree. I haven't seen this species in my yard since May 1997.
The bird repeatedly flew toward our tube-style sunflower feeder, but
couldn't figure out how to land on it. (The downies and red-bellies manage
just fine.) It didn't seem to notice the suet feeder.
At last, some recreational reward for all my hours of shoveling!
