Hi All,

Sorry I didn't get this out sooner as Tyler suggested but like everyone
else, I just have to many priority 1 things in my life.
On Sunday, Feb 14, I visited Turner Road in Calvert County and at the far
end of the road at the turnaround on the left side of the road but to the
right of a driveway there is a long field. At the far end of the field I
saw through bins 4 blue morph snow geese. There were 300 plus Canada geese
laying down so the blue's stuck out like a sore thumb. I tried to get pics
with no luck as I only have a 70-300 lens....it just wouldn't reach that
far....I did try. Tyler Bell has informed me this is a rarity in Calvert
County. After reading Tyler's email I pulled out my Yellow Book and saw
that he was correct. From lack of knowledge and not birding that area much,
I just didn't know to emphasize these in my original post. I hope others
got/get the opportunity to see them also.

Thanks again Tyler for your help.

**today I had an unusual male red winged blackbird in my yard that had two
rows of margins. I photographed both his left and right side and they are
on both sides with an equal amount of black in between the two. If anyone
would be interested in seeing the pictures just email me off line at

I have also had rusty blackbirds one or two a day over the past week. I
have gotten some pics of them also but they have been very skittish.

Happy Birding,
Patricia
Callaway, St Mary's county, Maryland

Chris wrote to MDOsprey, I'm assuming based on a phone call from you in the
field. At the end of his email he wrote:

"Also seen: Several hundred CA goose (4 blue morph)..."

Are the blue morph geese Snow Geese? If so, this is a rarity in Calvert. I'm
sure there are quite a few folks who might be interested in chasing this!
Nice find. I've only seen a few Snow Geese in Calvert and I've been birding
there intensively for at least 16 years.

on the left near a pile of green feed of some kind are 23 Horned Larks. Also
at that location are: Junco, Robin, Bluebird, Starling, Common Grackle, RT
Hawk and a male Towhee. Just down the road at the manure pile she saw
another (different) 19 Horned Larks and 12 Pipits. Also seen: Several
hundred CA goose (4 blue morph), Kestrel, Am. Crow & Turkey Vulture.
