Hi All,
The Kent County Bird Club will have a half-day trip to Chesapeake
(formerly Remington) Farms on Sunday 21 February. We will meet at 8:00
AM at the Dollar General Store parking lot between Spring St. and
Philosopher's Terrace.
Chesapeake Farms (formerly Remington Farms) is a well-known
privately-managed property with a focus on wildlife habitat enhancement.
Because of snow conditions it is not likely we will be able to go onto
the auto tour, however we will keep in touch with the manager in hopes
conditions improve. We will likely tour the main publicly accessible
roads surrounding and through the property and perhaps venture down some
of the necks on both branches of Langford Creek. This area is superb for
geese, raptors (including the possibility of seeing both eagle species),
and songbirds, particularly sparrows, including some of the largest
wintering flocks of White-crowned Sparrows in Kent County. On
Valentine's Day last weekend we saw 26 Brown Thrashers, 2 cock
pheasants, and 2 Hermit Thrushes there. We hope to see you Sunday.
Good birding,
