Had a very fruitful morning at Point Lookout State Park, my first time ever visiting, much less birding, in St. Mary's County.  It lived up to my expectations and more.  Primary target was the recently reported SNOW BUNTINGS.  They were easily visible around the Lighthouse: two adult winter-plumage females or 1st winter males (Nat Geo uses the same image for both depending on what edition you are using, and Sibley does not show 1st winter male.).  Soon after spotting them, Jeff Shenot and Mark from Harford County arrived, and we observed them inside the Lighthouse fence, then putting on a nice show on top of the fence and even coming out to land about 20-25 feet away at one point.  Definitely a lot easier than hiking 14 miles in the sand at Assateague!
At about 10:20 AM, I found three adult GREAT CORMORANTS swimming about 250 meters offshore, moving southbound, viewed from the parking space at the south end of the causeway.  They took off to the south after about 5 minutes and eventually disappeared into the glimmer of the sun.  This was a really nice surprise, even though I have heard Point Lookout is one of the best places to find this species in MD.  After the buntings, this was a bonus state first for me.
Thanks to the folks who first reported the Snow Buntings!
Complete list below.
