Hi Everyone,
Given the rainy and windy conditions on the lower shore this morning (3 March 2010), I went to plan B for our ornithology field trip: we mostly stayed in the van and visited recent birds of interest in the area.
A male EURASIAN WIGEON continues on Pit Circle Rd on the outskirts of Pocomoke City, Worcester Co. Jennifer Elmer first reported seeing this bird last week--nice find, Jen! Other birds here included about 90 American Wigeon, 80 Ring-necked Ducks, 10 Gadwall, a Northern Shoveler, 2 Pied-billed Grebes, and 5 American Coots.
Then on to Crisfield (Somerset Co) where the WHITE-WINGED SCOTER continues within the sheltered water of the Somers Cove Marina.
And, finally, the SNOW BUNTING is still on Coulbourn Creek Rd (Somerset Co), but without Killdeer this morning.
Unfortunately we had to head back to school before we could check on the Greater White-fronted Goose on Dublin Rd. But we can't complain: the students are learning about the diversity, status, and identification of our local birds, and we have ample opportunity to observe and discuss examples of material covered during the indoor part of the course.
Have fun,
