Yesterday was a fantastic birding day in DC. (sorry for the late post
on this). I've been hunting (with binocs) Wild Turkeys for a while in
DC and have always struck out. Tom Jones saw some a few days back at
10:15am at Poplar Point in Anacostia Park, so, yesterday at about that
time I hoped they were sticking to a pattern and I headed down there.
Sure enough, four female Turkeys were strolling around right where he
had seen them. So, add a DC Life bird to my list.
As I did a u-turn to take another pass by the Turkeys I saw a big
black bird in a tree right next to the driveway to the Park Police
station. It looked way bigger than a crow so I got excited about the
possibilities for a Common Raven - a difficult find in DC. I took a
quick look and snapped some photos and then went back to the Turkeys.
And yes, it was definitely a Raven. Another DC Lifer.
Great day! I posted a photo just for the record: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sherseydc/
