I photographed an Eastern Red Bat on March 23, 2007 at Font Hill Wetland
Park in Howard County. It was resting upside down on a tree trunk until
3:30 pm, then flew around catching whatever insects it could find. So
apparently it is not unusual for them to hunt in the late afternoon. I
was surprised, too - I thought all bats hunted at night.

As we usually only see these animals in fading light at the beginning and end of the day, it was a treat to see this one in full sun.
