As I watched a large V of Canada Geese flying over our Bethesda neighborhood this morning, my first-of-year mosquito buzzed my ear.  A couple of hours later I saw my first Eastern Comma or Question Mark butterfly landing briefly to sun on the rail of our deck, coming out of hibernation to enjoy the warmth after all the snow, followed shortly by a large fly.  Spring is definitely coming!
