Mary Maxey, Nancy Golden and I ventured over to Kent Narrows this evening at
approximately 4:30 PM to catch a glimpse of the Tufted Duck. We found the
duck east of Holiday Inn, swimming with five or six lesser scaup. We were
fortunate to get excellent looks at the duck as it dove and preened multiple
times (at one time rolling completely over to preen its breast feathers!).

This was our first time seeing this species, and the long tuft and sharp
contrast between the black back and white flanks, makes this bird a stunning
sight!

Thanks to the birder who found it!
