On Sunday morning the sunshine tempted me out to Patterson Park in Baltimore to look for spring migrants. Now that my son Seamus is 3 he could accompany me with his green plastic binoculars - although we have a bit of work to do before I'm convinced he's actually seeing anything through them!
Still, Daddy saw some good birds, the best of which were 8 Fox Sparrows, including 6 together at the allotment gardens, and 4 Brown Thrashers by the pond. Other migrants were: 2 Northern Flickers, 3 Eastern Phoebes, 25 juncoes and 30 Song Sparrows.
Yesterday, (22 March) staff from the Friends of Patterson Park picked up a dead woodcock at the NW corner of the park - we usually see a couple of these each spring and autumn, though usually alive.
Good birding!
