I found the reported LONG-TAILED DUCK couple around 10:30 am
today at the east end of Cash Lake at Patuxent Research
Refuge (South Tract). Along the trail a HERMIT THRUSH
fooled me into thinking it was something even more
interesting until I re-found it later in better light and
actively chasing insects. Yeesh. Other notables included
an OSPREY tending a platform nest, two adult BALD EAGLES
flying over, my first BARN SWALLOWS of the year, a BROWN
THRASHER near the visitor center, a pair of SWAMP SPARROWS
near Goose Pond, and a PALM WARBLER on Scarlet Tanager Loop
as I was leaving the refuge. Full eBird list below.
