Hello All,
So much for suspense, as I gave away the good bird in subject line. Here is a little background as to why this is such a good bird. My property lies on the divide between the Nanticoke and Marshyhope drainages, so there is little in the way of running streams and nothing of swampy riparian areas favored by waterthrush. On top of that, they are difficult to find locally (north side of the Nanticoke). In many years, I have had a small number (10-12 maybe) of records, but very few (like 2) that I could ever reproduce or find within safe dates. However, a couple of those records are early season over-shoots near the upper end of drainages. So I had a very slim hope that someday I might find one where Horseshoe Rd crosses Horse Pen Branch (DE) at the very edge of my mile circle around the house.
With the continued high water, the stream is running with some actual current. And the timing seemed right for an early season over-shoot (like my only Yellow-throated Warbler record in early April). So I stopped at Horseshoe Rd at about dawn. Two steps out of the car and I hear a very loud see-saw see-saw song just downstream. Wow, I must be a genius! Or rather very lucky that I happened to be there at the same time as the bird. I never saw it though and it outflanked me through the woods and continued UPstream. Bird #206 for the Oak Grove list.
Other arrivals were Vesper Sparrow at, appropriately, the vesper sparrow spot on Oak Grove Rd (MD), Barn Swallow. Also the FOY Great-horned Owl which I had somehow missed until now. Shorebirds are growing in numbers with 65 Greater and 5 Lesser Legs, and 18 Snipe in various puddles, 3 Green-winged Teal in another. Also a fly-by Osprey, yellow Palm Warbler.

Good birding,
