I had several spring firsts at Schoolhouse Pond this morning. I had a singing Chipping Sparrow from behind Darnall's Chance (the historic site beside Schoolhouse Pond). Another first was a Barn Swallow that flew from the direction of the parking garage and over the pond. There were also large numbers of Tree Swallows this morning. And, there was a singing Brown Thrasher along the rear of the pond along the trail.

Also of note were large numbers of flyover gulls and a few flyover shorebirds. There were three flyover Killdeer and four flyover Yellowlegs, which didn't vocalize. Gull numbers were higher than they had been in awhile, with 241 Herring Gulls, 39 Laughing Gulls and 12 Ring-billed Gulls. And there was a good number of Double-crested Cormorants in the area, both as flyovers and stopping in at the pond. I counted a total of 16 cormorants.
