I saw and heard a House Wren at Hughes Hollow, Montgomery County,
this morning, April 10, on the trail to the west of the second
pond. Although this is my personal earliest House Wren in Montgomery
County by about 3 days, it is by no means the earliest record for the
County, which is probably nearer the beginning of March. (Thomas
Ostrowski had one at Violette's Lock on March 4, 2009, according to
eBird.) This species is of course occasional in winter in Maryland
and the earliest date in the eBird records is for the one that Bob
Ringler had on January 1, 2000 in Worcester County.
