A number of new arrivals were on the scene around Jug Bay in PG County this morning.
A male Common Yellowthroat was singing and showing nicely at Mt Calvert. I later heard two more around Jackson Landing. Also at Jackson Landing was my first White-eyed Vireo of the year as well as two Ovenbirds. I heard two more White-eyed Vireos on the Critical Area Driving Tour into Merkle, where I also saw my first American Redstart of the year.
A Pectoral Sandpiper continued at Oxbow early this morning.
On Saturday, Jim Green and I birded St Mary's County starting at Pt. Lookout. Highlights included:
- 4 Barn Swallows, 4 Caspian Terns, and 1 Marsh Wren at Pt Lookout.
- 8 Green-winged Teal and 100 Bonaparte's Gulls at Elms Beach.
- 1 Northern Parula at the AAA Gravel pond.
- 1 Green Heron near the airport.
At the end of the day, we spotted a Vesper's Sparrow at Aquasco Farm in southern PG County, presumably the same bird found by Rob Ostrowski last weekend.
