Didn't have a chance to post yesterday but while I was eating breakfast on Wednesday morning, I noticed an odd movement in the backyard. When I went to the window, there was a large bird strutting through the woods. It was a female Wild Turkey! It's a good news, bad news thing though. There's a large amount of prime forest about a mile away that was just clearcut so I suspect that the turkeys that lived there have been displaced and are now moving into our forested section of development.

I've been watching the Patuxent River basin south of the Solomons bridge for the last several weeks hoping for gannets. I drive across the bridge twice daily commuting to work. Finally this morning I saw 4 Northern Gannets flying back and forth between Calvert and St. Mary's waters. Often, there will be a dozen or more so I'm hoping the numbers will pick up. There have to be fish to lure the gannets so let's hope the fish are moving!
