Visited Jug Bay today and despite the cool and windy conditions saw a nice variety of migrants.

A short hike into the Glendenning Preserve yielded a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks, a couple N. Parulas, at least 4 Ovenbirds and a couple B.G. Gnatcatchers. Multiple Chipping Sparrows and Bluebirds in the field on the JB entrance road. Also heard a couple E. Towhees doing the "drink" call.

I got great, extended looks at a Yellow-throated Warbler singing while foraging in some pines along the Utility trail near the visitors center at Jug Bay. Also here was singing R.C. Kinglets, and Palm Warblers. Wood Ducks and a male N. Harrier were seen from the marsh boardwalk behind the visitors center along with numerous Laughing Gulls, Forster's Terns, Green-wing Teal, and Greater Yellowlegs in addition to the ubiquitous Osprey. At least 5 Bald Eagles were in the area (2 juv., 3 adults) and a pair of (the same?) Red-shouldered Hawks were harassing a Red-tail, talons first.

The Railroad Bed trail held numerous Common Yellowthroats (FOY), a Great Egret, Brown Thrasher, D.C. Cormorants, Tree and Barn Swallows and some Chimney Swifts as well as a pair of lingering Bufflehead in the adjacent marsh. A pair of Common Loons flew-over, one of which was calling.

The Two Run Trail gave great looks at singing Louisiana Waterthrush and I had my FOY Worm-eating Warbler singing here and my FOY Black-throated Green Warbler, along with Yellow-rumps, Gnatcatchers, Kinglets, White-throated Sparrow, White-breasted Nuthatch, etc. I heard Pileated, Flicker, Red-bellied, and Downy Woodpeckers along this trail as well. I also heard a very probable Acadian Flycatcher; it called twice but then it stopped, I never saw it. On my way back to the parking lot, over the meadow, was a soaring Broad-winged Hawk. 61 species for the morning.

Good Birding,
