Yesterday morning we were at Swan Harbor in Harford County and were surprised to see a white goose flying in a distant flock of Canada Geese. Through the scope we were able to see black wing tips on the bird. The flock disappeared into a distant corn field, to which we dutifully trudged. When we arrived, the flock was on a nearby hillside, but immediately took off, disturbed by us and/or the tractor plowing the field. Joe got a few documentary photos which seem to confirm SNOW GOOSE, which he is posting on his site. We'll be happy to entertain different opinions.

We were happy to hear two AMERICAN BITTERNS and two SORAS calling from the pond, as well as several PIED-BILLED GREBES. WILSON'S SNIPES seemed to flush every few minutes, though we did not see more than three birds at once.

We then engaged in birding madness and dashed off to join John Dennehy for a Ruffless afternoon at Blackwater.
