Interesting number of sightings today from DC, especially those from
Hains Pt as Rob Hilton and I were there from 7:00-9:00am this morning
and missed both the Cattle Egrets and Bobolink (though in retrospect, I
think we did hear the Bobolink, we just weren't thinking that species
(still haven't cleared out the winter rust)). Birds of note that we
saw/heard were:
5 Common Loons (2 in alt plumage)
1 Solitary Sandpiper (my FOY)
1 Greater Yellowlegs
2 Spotted Sandpipers
1 Warbling Vireo
1 Blue-headed Vireo
2 Bank Swallows (of many, many swallows flying upriver, including c.100
Barns plus Trees, Roughies and Martins)
1 "Yellow" Palm Warbler
1 Lincoln's Sparrow (in the wood pile along the Service Road)
1 Orchard Oriole
I saw Frank Hawkins' car in the parking lot and believe he made it
around the point before the gate was opened, so I wonder what other
interesting birds he saw that we missed.
Good birding,
Paul Pisano
