I went by Merkle after work today and searched through the shorebirds at the pond behind the visitor's center and walked one of the grassy fields. The Bobolinks reported yesterday continue to sing from exposed perches (mainly the junipers lining the fields and entrance road). I saw at least eight, but I believe that I was hearing others. Also in the fields was a least four Grasshopper Sparrows, 1 Savannah Sparrows, 1 Field Sparrow, and many Song and Chipping Sparrows.

At the pond I counted 10 Greater Yellowlegs, 6 Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, and 51 Least Sandpipers. There were also 8 Green-winged Teal. And, there was an adult White-crowned Sparrow coming to the feeders (or at least near them) right behind the visitor's center.
