I put together a short photo essay of the recent work weekend at
Irish Grove, mostly images of the projects being done, but including
a list of birds seen. We had a very good weekend, got several
projects completed, and amassed a pretty good list of birds, although
nothing unusual. If anyone is interested in seeing it, please reply
off line and I will be happy to send it to you. It is about 1 meg in size.
In terms of bird sightings, I was at the University Research farm
just west of Salisbury finishing up a project this afternoon when
Marylee commented about 2 unusual birds flying by overhead. Turned
out to be Northern Gannets! They were flying east to west,
presumably from the ocean to the bay. They were about as far from
water as they can get on Delmarva. Also, hummingbirds showed up in
numbers yesterday, a couple weeks late, and are now consuming a half
pint or so of sugar water a day.
