Greetings,

After my morning at Swan Harbor, I went to Susquehanna State Park (SSP) north of Havre de Grace in Harford County. My arrival was a little later than I wanted but I still turned out an nice assortment of birds totals for the day included 86 species in just over 6 hours of birding. I didn’t think this was too bad considering I spent most of the best birding hours walking around a marsh in the middle of a corn field.

Best bird at SSP was a Blue-winged Warbler which put on a nice show as it fought with a gnatcatcher in the open and then “sang” its song continuously. Unfortunately, I missed the Golden-winged Warbler reported the previous day (so did everyone else apparently).

My abridged list follows:

The picnic area and the Rock Run Mill:
Eastern Phoebe
Red-eyed Vireo
White-eyed Vireo
Warbling Vireo
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
Northern Parula
Pine Warbler
Common Yellowthroat
Louisiana Waterthrush
 Black-throated Green Warbler
Prothonotary Warbler
Blue-winged Warbler
Ovenbird
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Blackpoll Warbler
Cerulean Warbler
American Redstart
Scarlet Tanager
Indigo Bunting
Orchard Oriole
