This morning I saw a pileated woodpecker on a stump in the created wetland 
on our property in Queen Anne's County.  It was a stump that we recycled 
from a dump, one of several that we have placed in an area we are 
reforesting but it is not a forest yet, it is pretty open.  He was really 
hammering the stump and didn't fly away.  Coming home later, it was quite a 
large hole created in the stump.  Unusual for it to be at ground level? 
Have never seen one so close up before!
