There's some confusion. The 86th Dorchester County May Bird Count IS Saturday, May 8. There is no Dorchester M.O.S. chapter. As a result, the count does not always get listed in the "Maryland Yellowthroat" even though the count has been conducted every year since 1966 (and will continue to be so as long as I have a pulse). As an out-of-stater I often do not receive the "Maryland Yellowthroat" until 2 or more weeks after in-staters do. When I finally do the time has come and gone for some of the various activities it lists. There may be some further confusion in that I also conduct a Dorchester count on the 1st Saturday every May. That's why the thing is up to 86 iterations by now, 2 a year. In 1970 is when 2 May counts a year began. In any case, we'll be rolling with 2010's 2nd count this coming Saturday. There are still a few areas without coverage but I usually don't recruit except from a pool of persons who have helped in previous years, because M.O.S. members show such a strong "site fidelity" for their native counties. Thanks for listening. Best to all. - Harry Armistead (w/o e-mail from tomorrow at 10 A.M. until next Monday, but reachable at 410-745-2764 starting late Thursday, and at 215-248-4120 until Thursday c. 10 A.M.).
