The Wilson's Phalarope near Sudlersville, Queen Anne's County, was
still there at 7:55 p.m. on May 5.
If you happen to be driving north from Sudlersville on Rte 313 and
are watching for ponds on the right hand side of the road, you can ignore
the first small pond, even though it may have a few Yellowlegs present. The
flooded field being used by the Phalarope is a bit farther north, and it is
such a large field that you really cannot miss it. Besides the Phalarope,
lots of other shorebirds were present this evening. Mainly Greater and
Lesser Yellowlegs, but at least one Solitary Sandpiper and one Pectoral, and
at one point some 50 Dunlin flew up and made a few circles above the water
so I could count them before flying away.
