I have to be relatively brief since I should already be on my way out of town, but I wanted to quickly post.
Yesterday I did a Prince George's County Big Day with Dave Mozurkewich, Fred Shaffer, and Stan Arnold. It was an extremely enjoyable day of birding. We ended the day with 120 species, including 20 species of warbler and 9 of shorebirds.
Some of the highlights:
Great Egret - 1 at Milltown Landing at the end of the day
Northern Harrier - 4 across a few different locations. We missed this last year.
Semipalmated Plover - Merkle
Semipalmated Sandpiper - 1 - Merkle
Pectoral Sandpiper - 4 - Brown Station Recycling Pond
Yellow-billed Cuckoo - 2 - calling at 3AM!!
Warbling Vireo - 2 - nesting at Greenbelt Lake
Veery - 2 - Fenno Road. FYI - this road has been closed for bridge repair and consequently has temporarily become one of the best places in the county to bird for spring passerines.
Bobolinks - 3 at Aquasco Farm and 9 at Merkle.
