On my way back from my second trip of the day to Jefferson on Saturday, this time to pick up some ground chuck from Hemps Meats (they actually told me to come when i called to see if they were open even though it was after closing time since they were still cleaning up) i saw what i first took to be a Green Heron in flight N of Broad Run Rd (MD 383) near/south of the intersection with Poffenberger Rd. It was the right size for a GH, but as i watched it (while driving and without BINS) i observed a pale head and what i took to be white chevron style markings on the upper surface of the wings at the bend. These observations occurred when the bird was rapidly moving away and may have been 1/4 mile off. My impression was that the chevron was near the leading edge of the wing rather than the trailing edge. Flapping flight rather than gliding or soaring was observed. Perhaps the wind had something to do with that. My thinking is a possible Miss Kite, but
 there may be other explanations.

Hummer feeder activity continued throughout the day with two birds at the same time at one point.

On a sad note, i may have destroyed a Thrasher nest while attempting to clean up my forsythia hedge that had been squashed by the FEB snows. I saw no sign of nestlings or even eggs, so perhaps no great damage was done. Needless to say, i put that project on hold until after nesting season.
